Obama is gravely concerned about Syria

Before getting into what Obama has to say about all of this, the photo above is a screen capture from a video that was uploaded to YouTube. There are more. These are probably the videos that Fox News has repeatedly referred to as “too graphic” to show on the air. The situation in Syria is about those victims, the refugees, and the rest of the people that are not involved in the conflict, but are caught in the crossfire. That is something that is too easily forgotten.

As for Obama, saying he is “gravely concerned” is a definite step back from a previous set red line. People die daily in Syria, and the U.S. government has been aware of previous allegations of chemical warfare use on the ground. As for the blurring of the red line, what is more interesting than the fact that Obama appears to be backing down yet again, is that normally liberal media outlets that have covered for him repeatedly are actually reporting on this.

The White House had promised weapons to Syrian rebels about a month ago, but they still haven’t arrived. The newly appointed Ambassador to the UN, Samantha Power, didn’t show up at an emergency meeting on Syria because she was on a personal trip. Of course, there are those of the opinion that nothing will be done by the UN anyway, with or without Power’s presence, primarily because Russia is on the committee. There is no secret about the fact that while just about everyone else in the media is reporting that these chemical attacks were perpetrated by the Assad regime, Russian media has been suggesting that it is just a ploy by the rebels. Of course there isn’t any real mention about how the rebels would have gotten their hands on chemical weapons in the first place. It’s difficult to determine, if only because the Assad regime has no good reason to admit to losing any of the weapons in their stores, and certainly don’t want to go public with a full list of their weaponry in general. It’s no better than the dubious honor Syria has recently received – the number of children that have been displaced from that nation reached one million.

And none of this helps the fact that talk of impeaching Obama has apparently moved to The Hill. While it might be tempting for the left to quickly dismiss this, because it comes from Sen. Tom Coburn, that might not be such a great idea. The man was not talking like a raving lunatic when he suggested impeachment might be necessary, and freely admitted that he is not in a position to say whether or not the actions (and inaction) of the Obama administration meet the legal requirements to do it. Well, see for yourself:
